Owning a store like Hearth and Soul and being able to curate such a beautiful collection is both a dream come true—and a little dangerous—for my own closet. I try (emphasis on try) to live by one rule: whenever I bring in something new, I must let go of something old. In my personal wardrobe, as in our collection at Hearth and Soul, I focus on pieces that are versatile, wearable, and—most importantly—loved. For me, the greatest disappointment is when something, whether bought by me or a friend, ends up tucked away in the closet with the tag still on. Clothes should be lived in, celebrated, and enjoyed.

When it comes to organization, I like to keep things simple and functional. I often group by category—jackets, pants, dresses, shirts—and then by color within each category. This not only keeps the closet visually tidy but also makes styling so much easier. Shoes, on the other hand… well, that’s another story. They’re my weakness! The rule still applies—if I bring in a new pair, I try to retire an older one. For those with limited space (like me), keeping off-season shoes stored separately can be a game-changer. My essentials? The world’s most comfortable flip-flops from Ilse Jacobson, a great pair of cowgirl boots by Penelope Chilvers, everyday sneakers from Gola or Veronica Beard, and, of course, a pair of versatile, comfortable heels.

My personal motto: I have to love it to buy it. If I’m not sure, I’ll sleep on it. And if I’m still thinking about it the next day, I’ll head back early—hoping it’s still waiting for me. 🥰
Cheers,
Susie
