Family Traditions: Easter

Family Traditions: Easter

Let’s talk about traditions…Who has children that are really connected to family traditions and insist on repeating these family events even if they have outgrown the age? What occasions are important to your family?

Growing up in St. Louis, every Spring I would look forward to the Easter holiday and our family’s tradition of hosting a grand Easter egg hunt that included all kinds of prizes, including candy, coins, a golden egg (with $100 prize) and even live animals. I’ll never forget the year that I found the golden egg in my Dad’s mouth and another year when my brother found it tucked inside a tennis ball.

Fast-forward many years to our life in Tallahassee and our decision to continue this family tradition when our children were young.  My friends ,however, would cringe every year when they came to our annual Easter egg hunt. Their kids were overjoyed to attend in the hopes of finding that one special egg that indicated winning that year's live animal giveaway (think bunny, hermit crab, fish, hamster).

This guy, Brown Eyes, joined the Moyle family 27 years ago and lived with them for over 10 years in his ever-growing backyard hutch!

Another fan favorite was the treasured Golden Egg that included their first hundred dollar bill.

We hid the Golden Egg in many unsuspecting places: my husband‘s pants pocket, a carved out avocado in the garden, and even  in the brim of the clown's hat. Our annual Easter egg hunt was an opportunity to gather with friends and always involved the element of surprise.

The hunt was always followed by a family gathering. Setting a beautiful table for Easter Brunch is as important to me as our Thanksgiving and Christmas table. I love incorporating pops of color, beautiful flowers, and all the colors of spring.

It is really fun for me to bring special occasions that have been part of my world to Hearth and Soul, and the annual Easter Egg Hunt is a perfect example. Our Easter Egg Hunt takes place the week before Easter, where we hide 25 eggs throughout the store, including a golden egg with a $100 gift card. Instead of candy, the eggs contain product giveaways and are hidden in unsuspecting spots in each room of the store.

The hunt brings joy to all ages and most importantly brings many many smiles and reminds us of the importance of this precious and important holiday.

Creating unique occasions and fun ways to bring the community together to surprise and delight is one of my favorite aspects that I love about Hearth and Soul.

Cheers!
