Gift giving… to me, the greatest gift of all is sharing special moments with family and friends—creating memories, sharing laughter, and supporting one another.
The giving of a physical gift is a wonderful way to let someone know they are important to you— that you value and appreciate them. For me, that is what this season of giving is all about: expressing gratitude.
There are all kinds of thoughts and philosophies about gift giving. I’m sure you’ve heard of the four-part rule: giving someone something they “need, want, wear, or read.” I prefer not to put gifts into any specific box, but instead try to find an experience or a special something that has personal meaning to the person receiving it—something that connects to my relationship with them, brings them joy, and will be useful. So what do I look for in a gift?
Value. Something with a strong price-to-quality relationship—beautifully packaged and functional. Form and function at their best. Examples include my favorite Vagabond House squirrel nut bowl with the tiny pewter scoop, paired with a small bag of my favorite Lambrecht gourmet pecans as the perfect finishing touch.

I also look for gifts that stand the test of time: a beautiful scarf, Tess & Tomy pearls (I’ve had mine for 15 years), or an alligator skin belt.

Something that can be shared.
During the holidays, it’s wonderful to give a collection of provisions that can make gatherings extra special. Some of my favorites include:
– Farmhouse biscuit tins with delicious English biscuit varieties
– A Hearth and Soul Provision Box featuring favorites for the perfect charcuterie board
– My dad’s AAB111 seasoning paired with the Bona Furtuna olive oil from Sicily

Meaningful gifts.
A thoughtfully chosen cocktail table book centered on a topic your friend loves can be deeply meaningful—and will serve as a daily reminder of your friendship.
Examples include Here is Tallahassee, celebrating the lifestyle and culture of Tallahassee; Saints of Old Florida, celebrating life on the panhandle coast; an El Arroyo book for daily laughs; or a dog-themed book to bring joy to your dog-loving friend.
Gifts for the whole family.
Games, a cozy throw, puzzles, or a beautiful Magnolia wreath.

A gift that makes a difference.
Choosing a gift that includes a nonprofit donation component is always a wonderful choice—making your friend happy while supporting a meaningful cause. We are proud to support Champions Ranch in Tallahassee, the St. Louis Fashion Fund in St. Louis, and the Jacksonville Humane Society at the Beaches through sales of our Archipelago candle. Truly, a gift that keeps on giving.
If this holiday season marks an extra-special moment in a relationship, a Zofia Day diamond, a Shinola watch, a signature Bond No. 9 fragrance, or an Eberjey PJ set are always thoughtful and memorable choices.

And if you’re giving to someone you don’t know as personally—such as for a white elephant exchange, or gifting your mail carrier, doctor, veterinarian, or someone you’ve recently come to know—a simple gesture of gratitude goes a long way. Chocolates, ornaments, a fun coffee mug, a thank-you note with a gift card, or a holiday candle with matches would surely delight.

At the end of the day, creating a smile and a feeling of appreciation is the best gift of all. Cheers to a happy, healthy holiday season! May you find the perfect gifts for the special people in your life… and always remember, it’s the thought that counts. ❤️🎄
