Cheers to the Moms

Cheers to the Moms

As we kick off the month of May, I want to highlight my respect and appreciation for all of the Moms out there, especially my mom who we lovingly call Nana. I have always felt that motherhood is life’s greatest blessing and greatest responsibility.

As a mom, you are accepting the responsibility to care for a living human being that is fully dependent on you for the essentials in life.  You are creator, nurturer, provider, mentor and friend and are literally, the life blood of another human being.  What you do and how you do it makes a huge difference in the life of another.

I have been incredibly blessed to have my Mom with me for the entirety of my 59 years.  Though Nana may be  86 years old, she is truly 86 years young. I think Mom has 9 lives: as a competitive athlete, model, volunteer, wife, sister, friend, mentor and Mom.  She is in recovery from addiction, actively participates in AA and helps others as a sponsor.

We have been through a lot together and I have learned a great deal about the disease of addiction, codependency and about the importance of family involvement and support in recovery.  Mom is in a great place and has worked so hard to be there and stay there and I am so very grateful for her, her health and happiness.  I admire how hard she has worked on creating a happy, healthy life for herself and for those around her.  It is so important to me that she is able to spend time with her grandchildren and now her great grandson sharing her love of life, sports and the Cardinals with future generations.

I love that Nana visits Hearth and Soul regularly whether I am in town or not. Hearth is her family too and I regularly hear “Hi Nana, how are you today?”  from the Hearth team that loves her too. She always stocks up on her favorites, Freya hats, Giving Bears, OSEA body balm, MerSea candles, Vivienne’s Dressing and Moody Bars to name a few.  Her favorite is our Osetra Caviar sold during the holidays.

While Hearth work takes me out of town a lot, Nana has always been supportive and thanks me repeatedly for creating such a special place.  Her endless support and understanding of my crazy busy life means the world to me.

Nana, thank you for being you, for teaching me so many life lessons, for choosing wellness and for being here for me.

Cheers to you Nana and to all the Moms out there. We are blessed

Susie
